Not to be contrary, but repeated exposure to excessive vibration can
cause permanent tendon damage in the hand. My father, the doctor, once
told me that the folks who use those big hammers to dig up streets
develop a syndrome of tendon damage that eventually makes it impossible
for them to fully open their hands. I forget the scientific name. So
it seems prudent to use anti-vibe gloves. Even using them, I still get
numb hands after awhile, and have to stop for awhile. I have taken to
wearing a close-fitting pair of work gloves, under my fingerless
anti-vibe gloves, to protect the ends of my fingers. Even so, I still
get numbed, and have stiff hands the next day.

As for protecting the fingers when sanding, it took me several instances
of sanding off my fingerprints down to the meat, before I found a
solution. I wear latex exam gloves when wet sanding now, and never have
any trouble with lost identity. They get a little sweaty, but you get
good tactile feedback and protection.

The discussions on this list are great, and I look forward to them everyday.
