Hammer hands
Deb,
After 25 years as a stonemason, I'm still whacking my hand! It doesn't hurt
so much now, I must have desensitised the nerves within hammer range, so I
just accept it as part of the work. I've had my hand stitched back together,
busted a vein open and developed a blot clot like a spare eyeball under the
skin.
I do find that the following add to the likelihood of mis-hits:
1. Loose hammer head
2. Wobbly stone not supported on the banker
3. Unbalanced stance
4. Feeling tired and emotional after a series of mis-hits
5. Having someone laugh at your bleeding hand
Could do with some of your cool weather here now!
Simon
