John James has an interesting discussion about Medieval Stonemasons and
their use of proportionate callipers for building work in his book:
James, J. (1989) The template-makers of the Paris basin (Publisher: West
Grinstead: Leura, NSW)
I use his method in classes when we are discussing architectural mouldings
and sacred geometry.
