Subject: Lettering chisels and hammers

Now that the weather is getting nice here in DC I want to try a little
lettering project on slate (I can do that with relatively little
disturbance of the surroundings).

1) I'd like to buy some tungsten carbide chisels for this purpose.
Would someone please recommend a reasonable number and size range for
chisels and a supplier they like?

2) Also, Kindersley's book recommends a set of hammers (one iron, one
steel, one lead/zinc dummy and a wooden mallet), but like a lot else
never goes on to talk about what, when and why. Why so many?? I can
certainly play, but would anyone care to share about this?
