polishing stone birdbaths
Tim,
I have seen a fountain similar to the ones from the mentioned website at
Ripley's Museum in Myrtle Beach (If I remember the right vacation). It was
fascinating how you could effect the rotation of the ball which was 3 to 4
feet across and had a lot of mass. I have also seen a very small version
with a stone ball of only 2 inches, made for home decoration, at a discount
store. I was able to inspect it and remove the ball. The small version did
not have a negative spherical shape under the ball, but a rough cylindrical
chamber. It seemed the important part was the machining of the radius on
top of the cylinder, and the finish of the ball. They matched very closely.
You might call around and see if some local stores have such a fountain.
