maquettes
Bill,
My use of maquettes depends on the customer. Some people need to see a scale
model when they are trying to decide what they want. Of course , if they
already know what they want then your job becomes a lot easier.
I like to use the oil clay because it is easy to change, but solid enough to
hold its shape after a lot of handling. Its also reusable and lasts forever
in a plastic container.
I'm also very clear with potential clients that sketches, and models are
just that and no more. They are helpful in clarifying an idea, but the final
piece will be much more than a small model. I like to leave the door open to
modification as the work comes along.
If I'm doing my own work, then I do most of my drawing in my head. Doing
some simple drawing on paper helps , if I'm stuck.
good luck.
