cultural relevance?
Linda,
No, its not a mid life crisis. Its been a crisis for a long time. What
I mean is, there are so many things I want to do it this life! I've
always been interested in many things, but for 15+ years climbing,
travel and mountaineering have taken up all my spare time. I've made it
to the Himalaya, Andes and Alaska several times and that takes a lot of
training time. Even now I am toying with the idea of walking the length
of the Americas, but will probably have to settle for a bike trip from
Ecuador to Argentina, to climb Aconcagua, with a friend. And I would
love to take up kayaking. And... And so it goes. I've been moving about
from job to job (not by choice) and never had a place of my own, now
that may happen and with it comes an opportunity to have a place to do
some carving. I've had an eye on carving since my teens when I first
saw someone making a little gargoyle. Then in 2000 I was in Alaska to
climb Denali and I got to speaking with a oil worker who was also doing
some carving. I decided then and there that when I got back to DC I
would make it happen. I love working with my hands too, that is why I
prefer the lab bench to becoming a chief and driving a desk.
