a ? for JVC
My thanks to Walter, John and Gary !!
What I was looking for was provided by Walter's link to the stone carvers
guild web site. I knew I had seen it while looking at this cool site but
could not remember where it was, exactly. If anyone out there has not
checked out this site, they should ....the works are awesome, to say the
least !! And you'll know why John and Walter have such a wealth of info to
share.
Stated there - "What is the difference between a stone carver and a
sculptor..... Sculptor ....assigns shape to an idea Stone carver....imposes
shape on a stone, and must be able to do so readily and in a manner that can
be duplicated"
Also there....."what is a stone carver ? A man with a mallet and chisel, a
compressor and an air hammer, and angle grinder and a diamond blade, a gas
tank and a blow torch ?"
I want to go with Gary's response......we are stone carvers if we are
working in stone.
It's not that I'm looking for a title......got plenty of those......for some
reason, when asked, I don't want to say I'm an artist or a
sculptor.....STONE CARVER - it justs feels better( and, hopefully, does not
offend the professionals)....well.....just stuff rumbling around in my
head.......
I, too, want to say how much I enjoy reading all the postings......morning
coffee never tasted SO good !! And thanks to all those like John, Walter,
George, Simon and Clive for taking the time to answer our questions, offer
their opinions and provide sources and inspiration !!
