Thanks for the detailed info, Robin- leads me to ask more questions, sorry!
If the stone is coarse, crystalline calcite as well as being dense and hard,
it should be OK to work with sharp tools as long as it is not too flaky.
Have you tried polishing a small test area? Are you going to install it
indoors or out?
I'm not familiar with the AMP building in Adelaide, and I've searched
unsuccessfully for more information about this stone. Where did your stone
come from? It may have been a small quarry, discontinued.
I think that the term 'griege' refers to a grey colour like unbleached
cloth. The texture and colour reminds me of Ulam marble from Bajool in
Queensland.
