sawing
Thanks everybody for your ideas. They have been very helpful.
I was thinking that I'd go around the perimeter of the slab (5'x2') with
my 9" grinder with a diamond blade on it, and then use some sort of
smooth-cutting hand device to finish off the part in the middle that the
blade couldn't reach. Those uncut middle sections never break smoothly,
and on a 6" slab the probability of getting a deep crater in the break
is pretty high. The stone is Bardiglio marble, which is pretty hard,
but not terribly hard. It's kind of weird that nobody makes a hand saw
that could be used for this purpose, or maybe I'm kind of weird for
wanting one! This dilemma could probably be solved readily by the
application of money.
Anyway, thanks again to all. This group is an amazing resource.
Elaine,
I haven't seen this on their site, but will look again.
