rounding edge on slate
I want to round the edge of a disk of slate (30 inch diameter, 3/4"
thick). If it were wood I'd put a bit in a router and go. In the case
of slate I want to use a concave drum burr. I have found tungsten
carbide burrs (1" x 1", 1 1/2" x 1/4" shank) online. They aren't cheap,
about $70.
1) Anyone know if this will likely do the job, i.e. stand up to the
slate for that distance? Do I need a diamond one (I haven't found one
yet)?
2) I'm sure I'm going to have to cool this with water -so no electrical
power tool. I don't have an air-drive tool so I'm thinking of rigging
up a flex shaft tool hand piece to work something like a router. This
seems a tad awkward. Are there any suggestions for better ways of doing
this?
