stone transport: Haul or own
Hey Robin and all,
The truck I'm lookikng at is a 90 Volvo 611 24,500 GAVW
with an hydraulic winch and a tilting or dumping bed. If
I had the stone placed on a "sled" I could winch down and
off the tilted bed. I could winch loads up the same way
but would still need to lift the stone to get a sled under
it, so as to pull it from the front and the bottom and not
have the block tumble. Though I'm entirely sure of the
soundness of the sled idea. It could use some thought, for
controlling the stone as it moves down and off the bed is
very much the issue. I think it could be worked out. I
need to lift stone anyway during the working process. My
idea is to outfit a removable hoist or derrick which would
hang out over the back of the bed and run off the winch.
I figure it would be a triangular configuration of heavy
pipe. Still thinking...It would be a mercy if some bought
that truck and put me out of my misery. I run from art
and chase after grease and hydrualics. The sheer power of
it! Air brakes! Obviously I am headed for trouble and
none can help.
Your friend would be just the thing for Carthage stone.
When will he be ready to run, just in case? My eyes may
be much bigger than my stomach, but it is actually
probably the other way around. My eyes are broken and
small, but my appetite is voracious and endless. I have
no vision of where I'm going only that I must eat my way
forward like a termite.
Going to Sylacauga, AL today to look at Alabama White
marble! Just looking,
Bill Knight
