Electric Tools
The dialog on the safety of power tools is incredibly illuminating to a
novice to the world of power tools for the sculptor. As I originally raised
the questions of which power tools to use, I have some additional questions.
Again, up until now I have used only hand tools on marble. My original
intent in the question was to use a hand point to rough out the stone and
then use power tools in the finishing process.
It seems as though some of the tools recommended, i.e., hammer drill and
angle grinder with blade (guarded, of course) are used in the early stages
of roughing out. I have taken courses in sculpting in the San Francisco Bay
Area using hand tools, so the world of power tools and their uses are
entirely new to me.
Can someone suggest reading material that clearly explain the full uses of
power tools in carving or provide me an explanation in the uses of the
various tools available to the carver?
