Electric Tools
Hi Geri,
Roughing out the work can be very labor intensive...but it does not require
the fine adjustments that carving details takes. The detailing of course,
comes closer to the end of the project. A grinder is used at the begining
of a project to block in shapes. Angle grinders are too big and clumsy to
do fine details with. They are used like this: The grinder is used to make
slices in the stone. These slices are then chipped off, either by hand, or
with an air hammer. The closer together the slices...the smoother the
texture will be. Also the thinner the slices the easier they are to knock
off. Near the end of a project...cup grinding wheels can be used to smooth
and sand large areas. I also use an air die grinder for polishing. You
have to watch the speed. Elle
