I actually have bought a couple of the Hitachi grinders. I use them with
smaller grinding cones (5/8ths threads that just screw on) and for Zec pads.
They have lasted fairly well. I've been very surprised. I consider them
throw aways however since they are fairly cheap.

My favorite grinder is the Metabo. Occasionally Braxton Bragg has them on
sale and about a year ago I picked up a fairly good one off of Ebay for
about $145. They usually sell for around $240.00 or so, and I use the one
that is variable speed. Metabos are just fantastic with easily replaced
bushings. I have 3 of these now and use them for sanding, grinding and
cutting.

I also have a Milwaukee variable that has lasted 6 years. I make sure to
blow it out very well after using it. I've never used a blade on any of my
grinders, by the way, above the recommended size. So if it's a 4 1/2 inch
grinder, I use a 4 1/2 inch diamond blade. I also use flush mount blades on
these grinders, I just make sure to take very good care of my blades and
check them very thoroughly before every use. I also never exceed the speed
limits of the blade.

Lastly, one of my favorite power tools is a Milwaukee close quarter angle
drill. Sioux also makes these (Milwaukee owns Sioux). They are great for
getting into close places and I use these for my burrs and sanding. The
bushings go so you have to change them out fairly regularly. My first one
lasted about 4 years before the bushings went and then I noticed the quality
went down with the newer ones they are making with the lighter plastic
bodies.

With these power tools, and my pneumatic tools, there is nothing I cant
tackle. If you're wanting to go larger, a worm drive saw to cut stone and
rough out larger pieces is great. Also a 9 inch sander/grinder. For
larger bases it makes final polishing a dream.
