Slate
Norm,
Here in San Diego I went looking for black slate
and found that the Olhausen pooltable people have lots
of 1" thick black slate, precision ground top and
bottom that breaks during shipment....and they throw
it away!!! So check out the yellow pages for any
manufactures in your area or places that repair pool
tables. I took one piece and polished it untill it
looked like black plastic (bummer !) The slate is
from Italy and came in 3 pieces per 8' table. They
have the pockets and countersunk screw holes in them
but depending on the crack(s) you can get some nice
size pieces.
