CSIRO Guide to the Specification of Dimension Stone
Simon,
Your interest in the Washington monument has informed me
of several interesting things. The quarriers in Alabama
are mistaken about their stone being a principal element
in the monument. Should I point that out to them? Hmm...
Hope they are not wrong about other things as well.
I have learned that Maryland is or was a marble producing
state. Cokeysville or Texas in Baltimore county. Maybe
Norman could pick up some material. The Cokeysville
quarry is now a swimming park, but they recently donated
stone to refurbish the monument. The Texas quarry is or
was the Campbell quarry and is nearby the Cokeysville one.
I could not get information as to whether it is active.
Probably all of it a dead end to one looking for material
of any size. Also mentioned is a white marble from Lee,
Massachessets.
