Northwest Stone Sculptors Association
Hi Geri:
Although I wont be there, Randy Zieber is the owner of Neolithic. Ken
Barnes can vouch for what I say - I go crazy when I see Randy and his stone
and have been known to buy a pallet of stone at the symposiums. You can't
contain yourself when you see his stone. He has blue marble and other
exotic stones that are at unbelievably reasonable prices. He also has
chlorite (which is an easy carve that produces beautiful results in a pure
black), and sometimes will surprise you with recent "finds". You should
contact Randy directly before the symposium, email him, and tell him what
you are interested in so he can plan accordingly. If you ask for a specific
type of stone he will know what to bring. Because Randy also carves
(although very little time prevents him from doing it much), he understands
sculptors' needs and the quality of stone we require. He also really knows
his stone. He will also probably bring limestone (because this is a hand
carving symposium), and maybe some soapstone (he has about 4 different
colors), and some alabaster. He also supplies me with my anhydrite, but
it's extremely hard and takes better to grinding than hand tools. I have
carved a piece by hand, and broken chisels usually result. Also the
"pinging" can be very painful to the ears -- anhydrite has a high pitched
ring to it.
Let us know what you get!!
Stacy
