Splitting Basalt
Basalt tends to break in concoidal (seashell) pattern, so I would think
you would need to go all the way through with your drill holes to keep
the break from wandering. Most people working basalt out here
(Washington State, where you probably got your piece) have them sawn,
but it takes a big blade.
