Geri,
To clarify, Randy will be at the Camp Brotherhood symposium in July,
which is a 10-day extravaganza of sculptors, instructors, stone, tool
and good fellowship. Randy brings down a semi-trailer or more of stone
and we all paw through it. His is mostly hand quarried stone from
around Canada. Art City from California also brings most of a load up.
Art City's stone tends to be more traditional sculpting stone (italian
marbles, etc.), and their selection is also eye-popping. I have a hard
time deciding exactly how I will blow my budget.
The Whidbey hand carving seminar in May will have stone available for
your purchase, and it will be mostly alabasters and limestones, I
believe. I think these stones will be coming from a variety of
sources, but since I don't know exactly where they will be from I don't
want to offend anyone by including or excluding them due to my
ignorance. However, I do not believe Randy Zieber will be coming. You
may want to contact him to be sure about this. In any event, it is
probably a 2-hour drive to his shop from the symposium site, a tiny
drive compared to what you are doing. The border crossing may or may
not be significant, depending on your timing. Bring your passport if
you want to go visit Randy. It will speed your return to the US.
