FW: type of stone
Hi William,
Thanks for your kind words.
Granodiorite is commonly called granite, and it is about as tough as other
types of granite I have carved. There should be plenty available West Coast
USA, try searching under 'quarries'
http://www.geocities.com/RainForest/Canopy/1080/granodiorite.htm
The rock we use comes from quarries in the city of Brisbane, and it grades
from light grey to pale pink, and can be polished. It contains iron sulfide
which causes an attractive buff colouration on weathered boulders used as
retaining walls. It also contains lumps of fool's gold where the sulfides
have crystallised.
Peggy Perazzo's site has a lot of relevant information:

Simon
