Splitting Basalt
Clavin,
I've used a propane torch to remove tool marks and drill holes on India
black granite. I don't know how effective it would be on basalt. You'll have
to experiment, carefully! The subject of flame finishing came up about a
year ago, so go back into the archives. The trick of removing tool marks
without leaving tool marks is never perfect , and using a torch is always
dangerous. Until someone comes forward with first hand experience of
torching basalt, I would wait, and keep learning.
Consider ways to incorporate the drill holes into the concept , which sounds
like a very good idea.
