Hi new here
Hi Scott,
Well its all pretty simple once you get a taste. The quickest and clearest
introduction would be to visit one of the carvers on this list. A one hour
shop tour and tool demo can open up all the creative doors and give you some
ideas about what more you need to concentrate on. Let us know what part of
the world you live in, and we'll see who invites you to visit. If that
doesn't work, we will try our best to answer questions here. For example,
if you want to bang on local rocks, the type of tool you need will depend on
the hardness of the rock, so first off you will want to test for hardness.
If you can scratch it with a pocket knife, steel chisels will work fine. If
not, tungsten carbide tipped points and/or chisels are required. And green
wheel for sharpening.
There are also classes and workshops and symposia going on all the time,
depending on where you are. So where are you?
