Sore eyes!
Hello to all! I have just spent the last 2 hours reading about 3 pages of
this site and I now have to take a break because Im getting sore eyes from
all the awsome information!
I am new to this site, and have just found an extreme interest in carving
stone.I have done one peice in soapstone and started on another in Italian
white alabaster, and I am having great fun.I am amazed at how much I enjoy
chipping away at the stone and find the hours just melt away.
I was looking for Canadian quarries and found Les Pierre Steatites (
http://www.pierres-steatites.com/ ) and I went and ordered over 900 lbs of
soapstone from them.
They supply a refractory soapstone that is harder than sculptural soapstone
and I was wondering if anyone had any experiance in sculpting the refractory
type soapstone, and if it is more suitable for letter carving for signs and
plaques and such.
Im glad to have found this great site!
