Sore eyes!
Hi Andy,
Good to hear from someone close to home. I'm in Saskatoon and am working
with some very hard soapstone, although it is from the States. I have
finished my "free" carving but have not started the lettering yet. I think
it will be ok, although I don't think I'd want to get too fine on the v-cut
letters, as it is an interesting texture. It finishes nicer with files,
sandpaper than a chisel and dummy which I am used to with more architectural
type carving on limestone and sandstone. Hard to say if yours will be
similar. Someone I know had some Quebec soapstone that was not sculptural
stone, and it was quite crystalline and a good challenge to carve.
