ok walter, what is "pitching"?
Hi Edie. Pitching is a method of removing stone, but it does
require the use of a chisel of sorts. Simon's link to Trow &
Holden will show you what a pitching tool looks like. The end
result is a broken surface known as rock faced, or pitched face
and in the USA is fairly common on the dressed side or street
side of 1900 vintage commersial buildings, and here in the
austin area quite a few homes from the 40's and 50's also have
pitched face three unit ashlar veneers. Like anything dealing
with dressing stone, the end result varies dependent on the
skill level of the person doing the work, but a well done
pitching job is a thing of beauty.
