Flint knapping
Remembering back to those dark ages when I was a mere apprentice
mason. Boss took on a residential veneer out of flint rock--
small rounded cobbles like you describe. It really proved to be
a challenge for a bunch of guy's use to working limestone. Stuff
would not take any water in to temper the mortar, and the thing
that really stands out in my memory was an entire afternoons
work coming down when one of those little buggers squirted out
of the wall, and the rest followed like dominoes.
Funny that flint knapping would follow up on a discussion about
pitching stone. The end result of the pitching tool is
remarkably similar to that of pressure flaking in flint, just on
a grander scale.
Good day all,
