If you are interested in trying moose or elk antler, which a friend who
knaps tells me are the best, the Boy Scouts of America's Wyoming chapter
collects "shed" antlers every year to sell to the public. This friend
of mine bought some from them, to make roughing clubs.
He also found a very good source of material to knap in old dead TVs.
Apparently, the front glass is just the right thickness and is of a
proper shatterability (is that even a word?), but only the glass from
older TVs. The newer ones are coated with something that makes them
unusable, so he says.
Since colleges are letting out for the summer, might be a good time to
go dumpster diving!
