Dust from soapstone
If you use a 'dust lamp' it will show clearly that only the big
particles fall to the ground. The small particles float around and
are most likely breathed in. The UK Health & Safety Executive have
lots of useful information on Stone Dust and prevention of Dust
related health problems. I haven't followed this converation - but
seem to recall several years ago on the discussion group that there
was a geologist from South America who gave some useful information
about the chemical / mineral composition of various stones and some
Soap Stone he suggested contains asbestos? Is that correct do you
think?

Quoted text begins.I always use a mask when working with soapstone and power tools but
rarely use one when I am using hand rasps and rifflers. The dust just
seems to fall to the ground. Am I being stupid??
