why carve?

End of quote.
Hi Norman,
I enjoy responding to the needs of people who will ask me - pay me - to do
something which I can do well, that is, making stone things. My job is
helping young adults learn stonemasonry skills, and I take pleasure in
seeing them achieve progressive results.
I don't get much direct feedback about my teaching, it is almost ethereal
work compared with standing before a finished stone wall or floor. Yet I
feel that I am contributing to the overall good of the stone industry and
society in general, and this is what makes me strive to improve each lesson
I deliver. Trying to improve means that the same lesson is delivered
slightly differently each time- hard work, but the variety is stimulating
for me and my students.
In researching for my students, I learn new information about the world and
about myself. This is what I really like!
Simon
