Chlorine vs. Marble
Quoted text begins.Marble will dissolve slowly in water, especially if the water is acidic.
End of quote.
I concure. especially when the pool mantinance guy is an idiot.
Recently had a call back on two Indiana limestone water features
that graced a coy pond. Apparently the pool guy decided to
"shock" the water with muriatic acid to kill back an alge bloom.
Killed the fish, killed the water plants, and eroded the
limestone to such an extent that I had to cut in dutchman and
recarve the water weirs. The Indiana limestone institute manual
claims a normal weathering rate of 1/8 inch per century. Below
the water line in these features, the stone was eatened back a
good 1/4 inch. DUH!
