Chlorine vs. Marble
1-I have e-mailed Tenax and will try to learn more about
them but I have talked to people in the marble industry
who have said that you can not seal in freezing
enviroments.
2-What a mess, What about all the Trevi fountain and all
the fountains of Europe?
-The issue of applying a sealer below freezing temp is germaine only if
you are using a water-based sealer. Solvent-based products will not require
such a restriction. Make sure the stone was dry before the temperature
dropped, tho!
-As to the problem of the threat to cultural monuments in densely urban
environments, it is indeed a serious subject, and people have been trying
for several hundred years if not longer to address the idea of preserving
stone with water repellants and consolodants, most without success, some
making the situation worse. The latest branch of silcate-esther chemistry
is proving very promising, but opinions still vary in the preservation
community as to whether such treatments are appropriate because they are
"non-reversible". The jury is still out............
