Noguchi
Hi Bill
Havent been around lately but your question stirred some interest. My
experience has been with barnstone that is typically sandstone. Some of the
rough pointed work I have seen is remarkably deep, almost like it had been
carved in thick unset plaster. What I found out thru some old books relating
to stone masonry was freshly quarried sandstone is very soft and hardens
only after it has seasoned.
The carving that I do can be side by side on the same piece of stone and I
cannot duplicate the old markings because the stone is now much harder.
Not familiar with Noguchi nor the type of stone that he uses (used?) so this
info could be useless.
