Subject: protecting fossil limestone outside

I created a sculpture out of a Canadian (BC) limestone that is
absolutely packed with fossils. Polishing it was very difficult, since
the shells were significantly softer than the surrounding matrix. But
I got it done, I like it, and so do others. My problem is that several
prospective purchasers have been ready to write a check when I find out
they want to put it outdoors. I have advised them that I do not
believe this piece will look good for very long in the outdoors, based
upon my experience working the stone. Is there a product out there
that would protect this sort of stone from the weather? I am in the
Pacific Northwest US, so we don't get much freezing, but we do get lots
of rain.

I am content to wait for an indoor purchaser, but the potential buyer
last night was so disappointed that I promised I would write to the
collective brainpower on this list to see if there were any
technological fixes.
