I'M NEW
Hello,
New to the list here. I've been browsing these threads off and on for some
time now and find the information quite useful. Thank you all for being so
open with your time and expertise.
A little about myself,
I've been carving for about six years now and self employed for roughly two
of those. I was trained as a Graphic Designer (no cat calls please) which
oddly enough is where I picked up stone carving -letter cutting actually.
The majority of my work now is decorative relief carving, carried out in
Indiana Limestone flat stock. I have my original pieces molded and
manufactured into cast stone and market them to the commercial/residential
construction industry. In the event that my arms, back and tools wear out I
may still have an income. -ha
Now, on to my question... Recently, I was approached to bid on a rather
large Roman Corinthian Capitol in Indiana Limestone (42"abacus x 30" hgt x
22" neck) This is just a onesie type project, no casting involved. Since my
cost factoring is typically based on CAST pieces and not the original, I'm
not quite sure how to go about pricing a large custom piece such as this. I
realize art is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it but, is
there an industry standard for an architectural piece such as this?
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks so much,
Gabe Drueke
