Transferring design
One thing I've wondered about when applying any coatings such as
beeswax and linseed oil is, do they oxidize and/or turn gummy over time
or upon exposure to air? The residue around bottle tops is often gummy
and old candles seem to become brittle. They are all natural products,
probably complex mixtures, and maybe synthetics would be more inert? I
mean, I just don't know, because I just haven't seen any old slates
coated with old finishes. Do they in fact last well? I know that on
some old furniture that the finish has turned gummy, but I've never
known why that is. I also don't know what synthetics might be better
but silicones are pretty inert substances in general.
