Spray Acrylic on Soft Stone
To Jeff Thurston:
Jeff,
Good to hear from another VA carver; I'm in Clover (Halifax Co.).
I agree with Bill marsh on not using an acrylic on stone. While I've never
used it myself, I've always felt it puts a plastic shield between the viewer
& the stone; in much the same way as gloss polyurethane on a wood sculpture.
Like Bill, I have used Butcher's Wax with very pleasing effects. I have also
used one coat of Akemi Stone Polish & after giving this ample time to really
dry, applied a light coat of Briwax. I have just started using Trewax paste
wax as a final light coat on my wood sculptures with very favorable results
& plan to give it a try on my next alabaster piece.
I've also found, when using wax, if a piece gets scratched, it's very easily
sanded smooth in just that area & rewaxed w/no harmful effects.
Hope you find this info of help.
