stone and metal
Pamela actually lives in DC, but she is well known around the globe.
Most mixed media pieces are combined with one of several philosophies.
1. Creating a dichotomy between the media, a sharp contrast or a visual
schism if you will
2. Creating a juxtaposition between color, form and content (more like
Pamela's pieces)
3. By accident & then having created something that just looks great.
As far as the technical side is concerned, there are many ways to
incorporate the different media into a contiguous whole. Some sculptors
utilize the base as a way to incorporate the two or more materials.
(eg.. using a cast bronze hand sculpted base for a stone piece or vice
versa)

This enhances the overall feeling and intrinsic value of the piece while
working separately in two different materials.
With the direct combination of materials they are usually laminated and
then shaped after the adhesion. So you can combine two different types
of stone or stone and metal. We have laminated precious metals into
marble and then the sculptor carved the piece. ( I hope she saved the dust)

Some sculptors use a liquid metal mixture (cold) to fill areas of the
stone after it is carved, like an inlaid material. There are very few
physical limitations in this area (with the right budget). You are only
limited by your imagination.
