stone and metal

Hi Ian,
Must be right close to me, the Bayside area where I live is populated by the
overfed, newlywed and nearly dead. Not telling you which I belong to!
Do you have any experience with pouring molten lead into stone? I have tried
it with marble, but the lead shrinks around fine indents of the letters and
plucks them out. I've found it impossible to pour the lead finely enough to
penetrate the anchor holes, but there must be a way to use this technique to
fill letters too large for beating lead strips or wire into.
A friend who didn't know any better laid lead strips in sandblasted
lettering and waved a gas torch over it until it settled in. He reckoned
that it was an effective way to create inlaid lettering, but it would not be
suitable for an added inscription or renovation of an existing vertical
monument.
