stone and metal
Hi Simon, My knowledge of this is a bit derivative actually. No I haven't
poured lead into letterforms, & I thought that Gordon implied that it would
spoil the stone(marble) to do so, by heat,or minute fracturing..I'm not
sure. From an aesthetic perspective,I find the leaded letter unsatisfying
compared with a bold, honest, light filled incised letterform. It's more an
historical inheritance from a distinct time( like antimaccassars) &
besides, epoxies are so effective to fill forms:we should'nt forget how to do
things though. As Norman says, the toxicity is an issue, but that can't hurt
the subject of the memorial, only the maker.
Ian.
