I think we had an asbestos discussion a year or so ago, if so it's in the
archives. Some soapstone (or stone sold under the name of soapstone) has
asbestos; some doesn't. I've worked with one supplier, Norstone, who
imports a lot of soapstone, including quarry blocks, along with slate and
other stone from Brazil; he tells me he has MSDS's (material safety data
sheets) and analysis on his stone and that it is free of asbestos.
