Hi Ian, Clive, George, Simon, Robin and all who have responded,
I am considering what you've said about the hand chisels. It wasn't as hard
as I thought with good sharp tools. It would make my day a much nicer
cleaner one, as some of you have said. The old lettering guy I previously
mentioned just goes around to cemeteries in the country and adds death dates
mostly. I guess he makes a good living, and I'm not sure I could even match
sandblasted originals by hand. Perhaps I could. I have scared up a guy here
in town who wants to teach me all things related to stone including
blasting. (Ulterior motive??? I know not). And I have a line on a shop job
where they mostly do blasting. I'm not sure I want to work full-time in a
silica sandblasting environment, but everyone has been so sweet there in
answering my questions, I could probably help him out and just wear a whole
lot of protective stuff. That's why I wanted to work outside in the
cemeteries with the sandblasting. After just an hour watching yesterday,
even covered up, I came home covered with dust and with my hair entirely
frizzed. :) One lays down a lot of tarps to catch the abrasive in the
cemeteries and recycles it. Anyway...thanks for all your help everyone.
I'll be in touch, and I'll try to get some of those really nice, sharp,
European???, granite hand-carving chisels and a diamond sharpening pad.
Shannon
