I agree with you Ian. Granite is definitely La belle dame sans merci et
gratuit. I was working on a wet lay wall this week end at home and had to
set a two ton stone by hand in a place where I couldn't get equipment. I
just had to get that piece in that particular spot. This batch of curbing
culls is gorgeous. Open joints with mixed color granite... veins of varied
color quartz right on the face of some. I hope that the rumor of this
quarry's closing isn't true. The draw back is of course what one would
expect from a man my age spending the weekend with such an unforgiving
mistress. I'll let you know when I can walk without assistance again...
but.. ya know??? That stone looks really great where it is.

For the person asking about feather wedges (That's what we call them here) I
had to buy a few small sets (1/2 inchers), and the places that still trade
in such things have quite a selection. The price , of course, has doubled
since I bought them last, but they are carrying the older style with the
slightly softer steel, which makes a lot more sense when working with stone.

As a side note. My business throws an annual Pigroast, which this year is
on Saturday. I won't be on line as much as usual this week. If anyone on
this list is planning to be in New England this weekend, please feel free to
join us.
