Egyptian slaves
While veneering yet another oversized suburban palace in stone, feeling I
was a part of the problem of sprawl rather than the solution, I began
wondering about the Egyptian slaves building the Great Pyramids. Certainly
the working conditions were infinately more miserable than my cushy spot
under a shade tarp, watercooler nearby. But did they feel any passion for
the work they were doing? Were they aware of being part of something that
would baffle, amaze, and inspire people for millenia to come? Or were they
only aware of the heat and pain of the lash?
