All I feel is disgust when I
look down from the scaffolding to see beautiful rolling green

Well golly gee Marcos. Tell us how you really feel. Over a
thirty plus year of masonry contracting and carving ornamental
architectural features, I've had numerous opportunites to work
on jobs such as you describe. While I feel that no one needs a
10, or 15, or even a 20 thousand square foot masonry clad home
filled with carved stone fireplace surrounds and fountains, I'm
sure glad that there are those out there who are willing to pay
for such extravegance. It is those "mini pharaohs" that have
payed my mortgage payments, car payments and put my kids through
school. I believe President Regan called it the trickle down
economic theory. It's been the way of the world for millenia --
rich folks spreading their wealth back into the community by
building mansions for themselves, and funding public works to
put their name on. If they didn't do that, we (all us artisans
and craftsmen) would be in a heck of a fix. Think of your work
on that rich mans house as being your legacy also, take pride in
the end result , and enjoy yourself while redistributing that
paycheck every week.
