the altar stone the same way they likely set a lot of other things...build
a basin or box, fill with sand, set the stone, pull the plug and let the
sand out. Will settle the stone into place no problem. Experimental
archaeology suggests that this may have been the technique used to raise
obelisks.

I know that this sand technique was used in lowering the Sarcophigi of the
Apis Bull down into the Seriphim chambers at
Saqquara. Or at least that's the popuplar version. Now, I'm going way out
on a limb here with the concept that the Egyptians possessed
extremely fine and strong fabric almost comparable to Nylon. This has been
verified. I envision a train of lighter than air ships
hoisting massive building stones from quarry to building site. Given the
catagory of excellence in pyramid building in earlier Kingdoms,
they speak of efficient and consistent execution, not what one might expect
from an arsenal of slaves , but from masters of creation.
