Subject: Egyptian slaves

Hello all,
I have been followint the Egyptian slaves line with much laughter and
enjoyment, and thought, well, here's my 20 cents worth.

The question was posed regarding how / why do people have the committment /
time to come together to build something like the pyramids, and why can't we
do something like that today.

Well, people do come together today for a reason - amazing how many people
are in armies / fighting wars / being conscripted/ doing battle. Coming
together to acheive a common aim, and for the "common good" . Shame it
doesn't have the same result as the pyramid builders!!! My readings indicate
it wasn't built by slaves either.

Loved the ice cube thought - and wondered about the size of the ice
necessary to hold a few tonnes of rock. Party ice?? Interesting thought...
but before I laugh, who has done the trick of lifting someone quite heavy
into the air, by four people using their index finger???? (now, that is a
good party trick, perhaps the left over of anti gravity machines used by the
ancients (wink).

I heard it wasn't anti gravity machines they used - but shamans / priests /
druids singing the stone along on currents of energy over the ley line
tracks - to build stone henge etc. (no doubt some engineered mind person
will tell me how they rolled them over poles. sigh)

Actually, one of the fascinations of carving is that your result will be
left long after I have left this mortal plane... shades of Ozymandius by
Shelley

I met a traveller from an antique land who said...
Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
stand in the desert, near them, on the sand,
half sunk, a shattered visage lies, whose frown,
and wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command
tell that its sculptor well those passions read
which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things
the hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed -
and on the pedestal these words appear....

MY NAME IS OZYMANDIAS KING OF KINGS
LOOK ON MY WORKS YE MIGHTY AND DESPAIR.

Nothing beside remains, round the decay of that
colossal wreck, boundless and bare the lone and
level sands stretch far away.

Good carving to all.

And a special thanks to Don, who posted the wonderful email about chisels!!!
Sorry, have been offline for a while,

Sandra
