Egyptian slaves
You folks are all a lot refined than am I, but I would think that you could
build bags that could be filled with air, and then deflated and "pulled-out"
when the stone comes to rest on the bottom stops. You could also arrange
your bottom stops, so that they don't bite down on your straps, and make
removal easy.
