Egyptian slaves
An acquaintance used ice setting a 10-ton sculpture, but instead of
single cubes threw bags of crushed ice under the sculpture. That way
you don't need to worry about a structural failure of one cube. The
plastic wrap just stays under the work as a memento to the day of
installation.
