Clive,
I don't have all the technical terms, but I can tell you I use a Nikon
Coolpix 880 that gives me images for publication in newspapers and
magazines. It has 3.3Mega pixels, 2.5x zoom, 5 area multi-autofocus and
SceneMode -- written on the front! It is small and fits in a jacket
pocket, though I know there are smaller ones. I've been in museums and
tried taking pictures with no flash -- most have come out fine (but the
best ones have been those where I didn't have the dial set correctly and
the flash went off!) I've gotten to like digital very much, but the
delay in shooting is something I have trouble adjusting to.
I hope other people will pitch in some info. I am no expert but wanted
to let you know what has worked for me. I do freelance writing and take
pictures of art and artists; so when there's no staff photographer to
cover for me, I take my own shots.
I continue to enjoy the how-to discussions and views on aesthetics on
the site.
